Arts Festival ~ January 20, 2007

Each year the GFWC The Junior Woman’s Club of Charlotte sponsors our local Arts Festival in January each year.  This annual festival promotes the arts on local, district, and state levels.

All winners will receive cash prizes and top award winners in each category will advance to competition at the district and state levels. 

Competition categories include painting, drama, literature and music.

Art - Painting only (Grade 6-8) including oil, acrylic, pastel, & water color

Art (Grade 9-12):

• Photography - Color &/or Black and White Photography

• Crafts (including paper & Dye craft) Craft Categories

• Visual Arts including: Graphics, Computer graphics, Painting, Sculpture, Drawing (graphite or colored pencil), Drawing (pen & Ink)

• All Art Categories

Drama (Gr 11-12)

Literature -  (Gr 4-12):

• Poetry

• Short Story

Music (Gr 12 only):    

• Piano, Whitener Scholarship (students planning to major in music)

• Vocal / Piano, Contest

Sewing (Gr 9-12)

Public Speaking (Gr 11-12)

** Club members will arrange to pick up art & literature entries for the contest. 

Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship:  [Academic]  A panel of Junior judges will select a first place winner and an alternate ($1500 to the 1st place winner and $750 to 2nd place. The first place winner will than be eligible to compete on the District level (a one time $750 award).  This winner will be eligible to compete for the State level scholarship (a 4 year award - $5500 per year) . This scholarship is given to an academically outstanding senior who demonstrates financial need.  Winner must attend a North Carolina college or university. 

Club Scholarships are decided annually in January.
