Our Overall Club Projects

Shoe Closet

The GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Charlotte’s special interest in children is shown in the tens of thousands of pairs of shoes our Club has purchased for needy Charlotte-area children for the past 40 years. Working with students recommended by the Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools, Juniors take elementary school-aged children to a local shoe store on a pre-arranged school day to purchase new shoes and socks.  The smiles alone on the children’s faces with new shoes prove that Shoe Closet continues to be the most worthwhile project in our community.

Dove's Nest

Dove's Nest is the women's equivalent of Rebound, both divisions of the Charlotte Rescue Mission, consisting of a 120+day program to help women overcome addictions. Our Club volunteers go to Dove's Nest every second Saturday of the month to complete an arts and craft project with the Nest's residents. These crafts not only help women by learning new craft skills and also boost their esteem and self worth. This Junior Woman’s Club of Charlotte overall project creates a lot of excitement and enthusiasm.

St. Peter's Soup Kitchen

The Soup Kitchen began in July 1979 as a project of the Mission/Outreach Committee of the Vestry of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.  Today, under the umbrella of Charlotte Urban Ministry Center, St. Peter's Soup Kitchen currently serves over 400 “neighbors” each day, seven days a week from 11:15am to 12:15pm. The Soup Kitchen’s mission is “to provide a Warm Welcome, a Nourishing Meal and an Accepting Environment to All Who Come. " Our Club volunteers go every other month to serve lemonade.
