About US
The GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Charlotte (JWCC) was chartered by the North Carolina Federation Clubs (later GFWC of North Carolina) and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) in 1947. GFWC is one of the world's largest and oldest nondenominational, nonpartisan, international volunteer service organization of women. In 2002, GFWC of North Carolina celebrated 100 years of volunteerism.
For 41 years, JWCC, in conjunction with Charlotte-based Belk retail stores, presented the annual Serenade to Autumn fashion revue. It was the longest-running fashion show in the South and a tremendous source of fundraising revenue for the JWCC. Since 2004, the primary fundraiser for the Junior Woman’s Club of Charlotte has been the Southern Christmas Show Preview Night, an annual Charlotte arts and crafts show to celebrate decorations and traditions that make coming home for Christmas a special time for family and friends. Proceeds from all ticket sales are shared by the JWCC and the Charlotte Observer Empty Stocking Fund.
In keeping with the tradition of the Charlotte Juniors, the Preview Night money raised allows Charlotte-Mecklenburg area citizens to benefit from our projects and donations. For 59 years, Charlotte Juniors have been involved in community improvement projects and also supported both state- and national-level Federation projects. While we are proud of our past, we look forward to the future as we reach out to those in need in the community and continue to promote the tenets of our Junior Pledge: "By living each day, trying to accomplish something, not merely to exist."
